Community Engagement Murals in Melbourne & Victoria

I'm a Melbourne mural artist who works hand in hand with communities to create public art that belongs to the people who helped paint it. My community engagement murals are led by me and brought to life by local residents, youth groups, emerging artists and community organisations, from a one-off drop-in painting session to a long-term mural program. Council & Youth Community Mural Projects

Custom, hands-on murals with over 15 councils, youth services and emerging artists

I've delivered community engagement murals for over 15 councils, including Brimbank, Stonnington and Hobsons Bay, and for youth services and organisations such as YSAS and headspace. Projects range from one-off hands-on painting experiences to long-term mural teaching programs that work alongside emerging artists and youth groups. Each one gets a custom approach, so the mural shines a light on the community and gives the people involved a hand in bringing it to life.

Murals Painted With Your Community

A hands-on approach to community engagement through public art

Every community mural starts with the people who will see it every day. Depending on the project, that can mean co-designing the concept in a workshop, running a drop-in painting day, or teaching a group the skills to paint sections themselves. Sometimes I'm leading the painting with community members adding their part, and sometimes the group takes a bigger role while I guide the design and finishing. I adjust how hands-on each project is to suit the group and the site, so more people can take part and the finished mural still looks professional.

Community mural FAQs

How many people can take part?

From small youth groups to over 100 participants on a single mural, as at Lord Somers Camp but this is case by case and to get the best outcome often a focus group is suggested

Can this be a long-term program?

Yes. Projects range from a single painting day to ongoing mentorships

Can you work to our council brief or funding application?

Get in touch early. I can talk through your goals, budget and community involvement so the project fits your brief.

How much does a community mural cost?

It depends on the size and surface, access equipment, the design, the number of sessions and how much the community is involved. Share your goals and I'll give you a free quote

Do participants need painting experience?

No. I match tasks to the group, and I lead the design and finishing so the final mural looks professional.
