The Wall

This mural project was an interesting one due to the nature of the wall. YSAS wanted an interactive painting but didn’t know where to begin and the largest part of their request was that the artwork would be temporary so that they could take it with them if they where to move to another location. With a background also in construction I put forward the idea of painting this on 3 ply boards that I mounted into the wall that way they would get the full effect of a large scale mural while also having the option to move this from location to location.

Our Youth Group

Together with Youth Services Advocacy Services we got together a group of young people to create an interactive mural. To begin our process we sat down for two workshops to think of ideas for the space, during this we went through a combination of drawing, writing and mostly just getting to know eachother so that their true essance could be captured in the artwork.

I later went away with these ideas and drew up a concept sketch to take our mural in, there where a few main elements we wanted to get in: rainbow flag, hands to represent multiculturalism, planet, smiling/happy feeling, ying yangs, starts, mushroom house. Each of these elements had a special place in the youth groups hearts for their own unique reason and it was my job to bring these to life in an inviting manner that both them and the visitors to the space could enjoy.

The Outcome

A Little Extra!

As a part of this project they also wanted to fill their entire space with unique artworks so I created a series of custom pieces for the centre and hung them all within the space, this is how the rest of the hang turned out.
