Youth Mural Before And After
YSAS requested an interactive painting but didn’t know where to begin and the largest part of their request was that the artwork would be temporary so that they could take it with them if they where to move to another location. With this in mind I put forward the idea of painting this on x3 ply wood boards that I mounted into the wall. That way they would get the full effect of a large scale mural while also having the option to move this from location to location.
The Youth Group Working On The Project
Together with Youth Support + Advocacy Services we got together a group of young people to create an interactive mural. To begin our process we sat down for two workshops to think of ideas for the space, during this we went through a combination of drawing, writing and mostly getting to know each other so that their true essence could be captured in the artwork.
I later went away with these ideas and drew up a concept sketch, there where a few main elements we wanted to get in: rainbow flag, hands to represent multiculturalism, planet, smiling/happy feeling, Yin and Yang, stars, mushroom house. Each of these elements had a special place in the youth groups hearts for their own unique reason and it was my job to bring these to life in an inviting manner that both they and the visitors to the space could enjoy.

Not Only A Mural But A Full Art Fit out!
As part of this project they also wanted to fill their entire space with unique artworks. So I created a series of custom pieces for the centre and hung them all within the space.
