Students Help Paint A School Mural For The Performing Arts Block

Category: School Murals

Many schools want more than just a mural, they want students involved in the creative process.

At Copperfield College Kings Park in Melbourne’s western suburbs, this mural was developed as a collaborative project centred around student voice and creative expression. In the early stages, I worked closely with the students to explore their favourite elements of the performing arts, encouraging them to share ideas around music, performance, and creativity. These conversations played a key role in shaping the overall concept and direction of the design.

Students were then invited to take part in the painting process itself, giving them the opportunity to contribute directly to the artwork and see their ideas come to life on a large scale. The mural celebrates performing arts through a vibrant and engaging visual style, while also empowering students to feel confident in expressing themselves creatively.

By involving students from concept through to completion, the finished piece not only enhances the visual identity of the school, but also reflects the energy, ambition, and individuality of its students encouraging them to pursue their passions in the creative field and beyond.

Creating Lasting Memories That Stand The Test Of Time

A fresh coat of paint can completely transform a wall, especially in a school environment. Whether the surface is flat, brick, corrugated, already primed, or raw, it can be prepared and painted. For this project, the wall was treated with two coats of primer and finished using high-quality exterior paints to ensure the mural remains vibrant and durable for years to come.

Step By Step Process:

Step 1: Brainstorm ideas with students through an engaging workshop of drawing, conversation & writing

Step 2: Take those ideas back to the studio to create a mood board with

Step 3: Put together general sketches to give the school options for the look of the mural

Step 4: Finalise mural design and begin preparing paint and materials needed

Step 5: Create sections to paint with the students as much as school requests

Step 6: Complete with a professional finish!
