Phillip Island School Mural Themed Around Local Flora & Fauna
Art Makes An Impact At Newhaven College
A large-scale school mural painted at Newhaven College on Phillip Island, inspired by the island’s distinctive native flora and fauna. Created during my artist residency at the school, the mural draws on the natural environment surrounding Phillip Island, incorporating local wildlife, native plants, natural tones and scenic elements into a vibrant artwork for the school community.
The mural was painted during school hours, giving students the opportunity to experience the public art and mural painting process firsthand. Students could watch the artwork develop from the initial concept through to the finished mural, including the doodle grid technique used to transfer and scale artwork onto large walls.
Throughout the project, students had the opportunity to ask questions, discuss the creative process and learn more about working as a professional mural artist. The completed Phillip Island school mural provides a lasting connection between the school, its students and the natural environment of the island, while creating an inspiring piece of public art for the school community to enjoy.
