Murray Cod Mural in Wodonga

In 2021 going into 2022 I began a 6 month full time mural artist contract with Wodonga City Council, during this time I was to build each and every project from the ground up including all paper work, permits, designs, confirmations, paint sourcing, painting itself and all other duties it takes to not only create but to facilitate a large scale mural project. During this time I created “Murray Cod” which became one of the 10 murals in town.

This mural acted as a very important one for me as it was the first of what was about to be 10 in town and if the styling wasn’t met with positivity I would have a tough 5 and a half months ahead of me so with enough research into the local environment and what the community loved I came to the all mighty Murray Cod known in the local Murray River and getting up to incredible sizes this fish was well respected but I wanted to bring it to life in a different way though my traditional psychedelic like visuals.

If you guide your eye through the piece I broke these down into different styles with more details in the fins, flowing in the background with luminescent areas to compliment the huge hero image and more simple line work placed in the flatter colours to look like wild scales. I was lucky enough to have this be very warmly welcomed to begin what became an amazing 6 month project. This piece was later featured on channel 7 & 9 news along with being a part of the “Upstream Festival” in town.
