Adidas Mural In Melbourne CBD

A Mural Created For The New Adidas Flagship Store At Melbourne Central

I was commissioned to create a large-scale mural for the first level of Adidas’ new flagship store at Melbourne Central.

At 1,200 square metres, the new store is Adidas’ premium flagship retail concept in Melbourne, designed around an immersive and experiential shopping environment. For the mural, I wanted to create something that felt connected to both Adidas and Melbourne — bringing together some of the city's sporting and street culture through my own style.

The artwork draws on things that feel immediately recognisable to me as part of Melbourne — trams, AFL, skateboarding, graffiti and spray paint. I brought these elements together as a collection of bold illustrations, using a combination of blue and yellow tones to give the mural a strong, cohesive feel across the wall.

Painting the Mural

Once the concept was developed, I translated the artwork onto the wall using the same combination of spray paint and painting techniques I've developed throughout my mural practice.

Working at this scale meant balancing the individual details with the overall composition, making sure the artwork worked both up close and within the wider retail space.

The Finished Mural

The final artwork brings together the different Melbourne references into one large composition, using bold shapes and complementary blue and yellow tones.

I wanted there to be plenty to discover throughout the mural, with smaller details and characters sitting alongside larger graphic elements. From further away, the artwork reads as one strong piece, while up close there are lots of individual references to the city, sport and street culture.

Skateboard Painting Workshop

As part of the store opening, I also facilitated a skateboard painting workshop, giving guests the opportunity to create their own artwork on skateboards.

Skateboarding was already a key part of the mural concept, so this was a great way to bring that idea into the event and make the project more interactive.

It also connected naturally with Adidas’ long-standing relationship with skateboarding and street culture.

Limited-Edition Tote Bags

Alongside the mural, I created artwork for a limited run Adidas tote bags.

The design was developed as an extension of the mural, carrying some of the same visual language into a smaller format. The finished bags were given out during the VIP opening event.

It was a nice opportunity to see the artwork move beyond the wall and become something people could actually take away with them.

Hey! I’m a Melbourne-based mural and public artist with more than 15 years of experience creating large-scale artwork for brands, businesses, councils, schools and public spaces. My practice comes from a background in street art and graffiti, combined with a strong interest in illustration, colour and the relationship between artwork and its environment. I work across commercial murals, public art, brand activations, live painting and workshops, often developing concepts that respond specifically to the location, audience or organisation I’m working with.

I enjoy working with brands to create artwork that feels considered and genuinely connected to its surroundings, rather than simply functioning as decoration. The Adidas Melbourne Central project was a great example of that approach — taking a globally recognised brand and finding a way to connect it with the culture and character of Melbourne.
