School Murals Where Students Help Create the Artwork

Category: School Murals - Animals & Nature

Many schools want more than just a mural, they want students involved in the creative process.

At Raywood Primary School, a small regional school with around 20 students, the mural was created as a collaborative project where the students helped shape the concept and physically take part in painting the artwork. During the early stages we spoke with the students about what they would like to see represented in the mural, encouraging them to share ideas based on the things they enjoy and recognise around their school environment. Many of the students chose their favourite Australian animals and native plants that they regularly see in the surrounding area, which led the artwork to be themed around Australian wildlife in a vibrant and engaging colour palette. The mural also incorporates the school’s values within the design, allowing the finished piece to not only celebrate the local environment but also reflect the identity and principles of the school community.

Step By Step Process:

Step 1: Brainstorm ideas with students through an engaging workshop of drawing, conversation & writing

Step 2: Take those ideas back to the studio to create a moodboard with

Step 3: Put together general sketches to give the school options for the look of the mural

Step 4: Finalise mural design and begin preparing paint and materials needed

Step 5: Paint Away!

Creating Lasting Memories That Stand The Test Of Time

A fresh coat of paint can completely transform a wall, especially in a school environment. Whether the surface is flat, brick, corrugated, already primed, or raw, it can be prepared and painted. For this project, the wall was treated with two coats of primer and finished using high-quality exterior paints to ensure the mural remains vibrant and durable for years to come.
