Art Description
Rats have long been negatively stigmatised, yet these remarkable creatures exhibit an incredible list of admirable traits such as their exceptional intelligence and adaptability. Their close association with humans for sustenance, shelter, and water has unfortunately led to a widespread negative perception. However, many of the qualities these mammals possess are undeniably impressive.

Furthermore, rats can make wonderful pets. They self-clean and often display friendliness and curiosity. With a little care and affection, they can become delightful companions. As a rat owner myself, I've frequently encountered discomfort at the mention of this. Through this vibrant and optimistic portrayal, I aim to challenge the prevailing stereotypes and cast a positive light on these misunderstood critters.

Commission Process
In 2023 I facilitated the Traffic Signal Box Project with Stonnington City Council, during this time I linked up with a young artist to paint two boxes. One was a design from a student and this was the second box a design from myself featuring my two pet rats broken down simply enough for a nice finish while also being student friendly for a collaborative process. I really love the Community Engagement Mural aspect, it’s always such a rewarding process!
